Welcome to AI Insurer Brief Issue!

Hey — Fabio here,

Marsh has cut London wholesale placement processing from two to four weeks to a couple of hours, with 93% of its London trading now digital and its Thrive savings target raised from $400 million to $600 million.

W. R. Berkley is quoting more than 20% additional submissions through AI-powered intake, while Manulife says AI has already delivered $300 million and is targeting $1 billion in cumulative value by 2027.

The operating benchmark is shifting from pilot adoption to measurable underwriting capacity, placement speed and enterprise value.

The exposure side is moving too. Travelers will cede roughly $165 million more cyber premium in Q4 2026 and $230 million in 2027 as advanced AI models add to the threat environment, pushing AI-driven cyber risk into reinsurance strategy and renewal scrutiny.

This issue examines how AI is changing distribution speed, underwriting throughput, claims operations, capacity and the economics of insurance growth.

Here’s what stood out this week, in under 4 minutes. 👇

This newsletter is sponsored by Bezel, unless you know your operational data can be worth from $100K to $3M.

Monetize your company's operational data for $100k to $3 million

Few know it, but AI labs now let you monetize your company’s operational data. And they're spending $15 billion this year on it.

Your workflows, documentation, processes, and internal convos like Slack are extremely valuable and they're paying anywhere from $100k to $3 million for it per company.

You might think that sounds scary, but all the data is anonymized before, so no PII is sent over. Bezel (Y combinator backed) helps you partner with a lab that wants to license your data specifically if you have more than 20 employees and have existed longer than a year.

W. R. BERKLEY QUOTES 20% MORE SUBMISSIONS WITH AI-POWERED INTAKE

What changed: AI work on intake has made W. R. Berkley more efficient "to the tune of 20% plus". In practice, the specialty insurer can now take in and quote about 20% more submissions. CEO Rob Berkley also said more than half of its claims are for $5,000 or less, so more of them could be handled with little human involvement. He also warned that AI-powered robots will change workers’ compensation risk over time.

Why it matters: W. R. Berkley is getting 20% more quotes out of with same headcount. On small commercial accounts, where Berkley says speed is a huge advantage, insurers that respond slowly will lose business to faster ones. (The Motley Fool)

What changed: Manulife launched an enterprise AI platform so approved AI tools can be reused across its 25 markets. The insurer said AI had delivered $300 million of value by the end of 2025. TRAVELERS PASSES MORE CYBER RISK TO REINSURERS AS AI THREATS GROW

What changed: From 1 October, Travelers increased the share of cyber risk it passes to reinsurers under its quota share treaty. CFO Dan Frey said this reduces net written premium by about $165 million in Q4 2026 and about $230 million in 2027, with a "de minimis" effect on earnings. Bond & Specialty president Jeffrey Klenk said "the advanced AI models are adding to that dynamic" in cyber risk.

Why it matters: A major US carrier is holding less of its own cyber risk while AI reshapes the threat. Expect reinsurers to look harder at AI-driven cyber exposure at renewals. (Reinsurance News)
